US soul vocal duo that consisted of and . Formed in 1961 in Miami, Florida, they only enjoyed minor success until the duo was coupled with the songwriting team of and in 1965. The best known hits from this period are probably “Hold On, I’m Coming” and “Soul Man” . Sam & Dave were renowned for their exciting stage performance. In the late 1970’s and would be very much inspired by that stage performance when they did their act. Sam & Dave disbanded in 1971, but reunited shortly several times during the 1970’s and 1980’s. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
